Crate or playpen?

A crate is a den for sleeping and settling; a playpen is a safe area for being awake. A puppy left alone for more than a short spell needs the space of a playpen with a door so he can move away from his own toilet area, while a dog who already settles well is better served by a folding steel crate that packs away. Sizing a crate

Your dog should be able to stand without ducking, turn round without touching the sides and lie flat on his side.
