Pet clothing covers very different occasions, from a wet walk to a brief festive photo. Compare practical dog raincoats, fleece-lined winter coats, boots and selected outfits for dogs and cats. Choose by the animal's measurements and comfort first; the right garment should fit the occasion without getting in their way.
Choosing pet clothing
Measure the chest, neck and back as directed for the particular garment. Size labels and breed examples are not consistent between designs. The winter coat and the Detixy raincoat have separate charts and different closures. Check every relevant measurement, including room for any harness the product is designed to accommodate.
Rain cover or warmth?
Read the outer material and lining together. A water-repellent finish, a waterproof specification and an insulating layer describe different features. The Detixy raincoat combines an outer shell with fleece lining. Choose for the conditions and your dog, monitor comfort during use and remove a garment that becomes unsuitable as activity or weather changes.
Boots need their own fit
Footwear is selected by paw measurements, not by the coat size your dog wears. The winter boots with H-strap also have body straps that need checking. Introduce boots briefly on familiar ground and watch how your dog walks. A patterned sole or covered paw is not a guarantee of grip or protection on every surface.
Everyday clothes or costumes?
A festive outfit is optional dress-up, not a walking harness or a reason to keep an uncomfortable pet dressed. Supervise short wear and remove it if movement, sight, breathing or normal behaviour is affected. Use dog clothing and cat clothing to find the items intended for the animal you are shopping for.
